Generators and Transfer Switches
In electricity generation, a generator is a device that converts motive power (mechanical energy) into electric power for use in an external circuit. Sources of mechanical energy include steam turbines, gas turbines, water turbines, internal combustion engines, wind turbines and even hand cranks.

ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) / MTS (Manual Transfer Switch)
A transfer switch is an electrical switch that switches a load between two sources. Some transfer switches are manual, in that an operator effects the transfer by throwing a switch, while others are automatic and trigger when they sense one of the sources has lost or gained power
AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH ATS can transfer the load between mains and mains or between mains and generator in few seconds. It can automatically detect the voltage and frequency of mains power or generator power timely.
An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is often installed where a backup generator is located, so that the generator may provide temporary electrical power if the utility source fails.
